Melanie + Jack + Tiny Baby Bump ;) ~ Pasadena, CA Portrait Photography

When Melanie first emailed me to schedule a shoot, I could feel the excitement in her email. I just had one of those moments, where I knew she’d be one of those great clients that I actually like. Well, really, anyone who starts the email with ‘Love your pictures!’ is a winner in my book, but after meeting her, and her husband Jack, I know that my instincts were right. These are two incredibly nice people. I can’t wait to meet + photograph their little one when he/she arrives.:)

Her plan was to have these photos taken to tell a very, very special surprise to her friends + family. Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond her control, she wasn’t able to tell everyone the way she had hoped, but either way, I think it’s the sweetest thing, and I think that when their baby is an adult, and sees these photos, and sees that their Mom made a stocking for them before they were even born, they’ll totally love it.

Their house has been in Jack’s family for years, so it was important to them to include it in the photos…And I love this one.

This next one was Melanie’s idea, and I’m so glad she suggested it, because I LOVE it.

And this was Jack’s favorite pose, because he didn’t have to look + smile.;)

Since this was a mini shoot, that’s all I have of this great couple, but I really hope to be photographing them again in the future!:)

Tayler, Ryan, & Savannah | Covina, CA Portrait Photography

Last week, I went over to Tayler + Ryan’s house to take Christmas photos of the two of them with their beautiful daughter, Savannah. They’re adorable together, and as you’ll see in the photos, Savannah was so happy + smiley. Love it!

In this one, Tayler told Savannah to ‘Smile for Isaiah!’, who is her brand new baby cousin. So sweet!

Here, Savannah is telling Tayler a secret. I asked Savannah if it was a big secret, and she smiled, and said ‘No!’.:)

The Antithesis of ‘Cool’

I love Christmas. It’s more like an obsession, really. Now normally, you all know that I like to act all cool, ‘Oh yeah, I was just sitting here reading ‘Freedom’, and listening to Bright Eyes’ but when it comes to Christmas, I don’t care about being cool. I don’t care about being perceived as the coolest, or the smartest, or the most cultured. On Christmas, I just want to be the girl who brings the best Christmas cookies, and makes the funniest awkward jokes.

When I was a kid, Christmas was such a magical time because it was that one day that was just about family. Now, I didn’t typically hang out with my siblings, (they’re both about a decade older than me) but on Christmas, it was different. On Christmas morning, my Mom would lay a big comforter on the living room floor, and my almost adult siblings would sit with me and open presents with excitement that almost rivaled that of their 7 year old sister. And that’s what I think about when I think about Christmas. So, I really, really love it, even if it means I forfeit the tiny bit of street cred I still had left.

So, since I’ve already lost all that street cred, I give you a photo of a dog (my dog) in a Santa outfit…

Oh, and the other picture is of some delicious Brown Butter Walnut cookies I just made. They’re awesome. Feel free to email me if you want the recipe.:)

Pat & Beth ~ Engaged – Covina CA Wedding Photography

Last week, I shot this wonderful couple at the Huntington Library in San Marino, CA. I love this place. It’s honestly one of my favorite places in the world. I love that my job is walking around cool places like this taking pictures of cool people. I love it. Anyway, Pat & Beth were fabulous subjects, totally willing to do whatever I thought would look cool, and also full of ideas on their own, which I love. Great location, great clients, great light, it was a perfect engagement shoot.

These are my favorites, I just love what you can get when you tell a couple to just hold hands and walk.

Their wedding is in just a few weeks, and I can’t wait to shoot it, I am very sure that it’s going to be an awesome wedding.:)

Being Kind

Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle.

~ Plato

I consider myself to be a weird person. I listen to weird music, I make weird jokes, I’m weird. Many people would make fun of me for the fact that I could easily spend a few hours browsing the Literature exhibit at the Huntington Library. Or for the fact that my dream boyfriend would be a sweet geek like Michael Cera. I’ve been made fun of for these things for as long as I can remember. But I’m also a really awesome kind of weird. I’m the kind of person who holds doors for strangers, asks people how they are, and always says please and thank you. And if we’re friends, you know that I’ll do anything for you. You’re sick, and need something? I’m there. Bad breakup, and you want to sit and cry while eating cookies? I’ll bake the cookies, and I’ll sit with you while you cry. I’m not like other people. I’m weird, funny, and probably quite obnoxious sometimes, but I’m also really, really kind. So go be kind today. Just because it’s the right thing to do…

Since every post is better with a photo, I’ll include one that illustrates who taught me how to be weird.:)

And he also taught me quite a lot about how to be kind.

I think we’re all a little weird. It’s good to know there are some other weird people out there that hold the door for strangers, though. haha!

I’m glad to know I’m not the only one! :)

How very sweet… love both of you weirdos…

heatherDecember 3, 2010 - 11:24 pm

I hope being kind isn’t weird… I wish it were common though. Love your dad’s Pink Floyd tshirt!! He is a cool guy!

Kristin CarlsonDecember 5, 2010 - 1:40 pm

I wish it were more common too. I don’t think any of us really intend to be unkind, but rather we get caught up in everything we have going on. We all need reminders once in awhile. :)
He get so many compliments on that shirt! He actually has 2 of them, and 2 Jimi Hendrix shirts, and he alternates them. It’s pretty much all he wears. haha
